CONJUNCTIVITIS

It is also known as pink eye. It is an infection or inflammation of the transparent membrane that lines the eyelid and covers the white part of the eyeball.

Causes of Conjunctivitis:

  • Bacteria.
  • Viruses.
  • Allergies: such as pollen, dust or smoke.
  • A foreign object in the eye.
  • Irritants such as shampoos, dirt.

Bacterial and viral conjunctivitis can spread easily from person to person, but it`s not a serious health risk if detected early.

Symptoms of Conjunctivitis:

  • Redness in one or both eyes.
  • A gritty feeling in one or both eyes.
  • Itchiness.
  • Thick yellow discharge that crust over the eyelashes during the night and may prevent the eye from opening.
  • Teary eyes
  • Blurred vision.

Prevention of Conjunctivitis:

  • Wash your hands often.
  • Don`t touch your eyes with your hands.
  • Use a clean towel everyday.
  • Don`t share towels.
  • Change pillow cases often.
  • Don`t share eye cosmetics or personal eye care items
